An Australian online casino worth joining feels built for Aussies: AUD wallets, PayID, AEST support and pokies libraries that suit local tastes. Here is how OZBonus24 shortlists the best online casino options for real money play from Australia.
Plenty of international casinos accept Australians. Far fewer are built for them. When we review an Aussie online casino, these are the local details that separate a genuinely good fit from a site that simply lets you in:
Of the more than 240 casinos our team has played, only a handful pass every local test above and our core checks on licensing, bonus terms and payout speed. The casino at the top of this page leads them all, with a welcome package of 150% bonus up to A$1,500, PayID and Neosurf in AUD, 9,000+ games, up to 20% weekend cashback and withdrawals usually paid in minutes. For the full ranked list, see our best online casino Australia page, or our best online pokies Australia ranking if pokies are your main game.
The Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA) is the federal law that governs online gambling. It allows licensed Australian operators to offer online sports betting and racing wagering, but prohibits anyone from offering online casino games, online pokies and in-play betting to people located in Australia. It is enforced by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), which can ask internet providers to block offshore gambling websites and has blocked many hundreds since 2019.
The Act targets operators, not players. It is not an offence for an Australian to play at an offshore casino, which is why every online casino Australia real money players can use holds an international licence from regulators such as the Curaçao Gaming Authority, the Malta Gaming Authority, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission or Anjouan. There are three practical consequences:
Since June 2024, Australian-licensed wagering providers have also been banned from accepting credit cards and crypto. That rule applies to local bookmakers, not offshore casinos, but it is a good reminder that debit cards, PayID and prepaid options such as Neosurf are the smarter way to fund any gambling account.
Online gambling law is federal, but land-based pokies, casinos and venues are regulated by each state and territory, and the rules differ a lot. Here is how things look across the country, and what it means for online players in each place.
| State / territory | Gambling regulator | Local pokies landscape |
|---|---|---|
| New South Wales | Liquor & Gaming NSW | Pokies in pubs and clubs; close to half of Australia's machines |
| Victoria | Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) | Pubs, clubs and Crown Melbourne; A$100 load-up limit and overnight venue closures |
| Queensland | Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) | Pubs, clubs and casinos in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Townsville and Cairns |
| Western Australia | Gaming and Wagering Commission of WA | Pokies only at Crown Perth, none in pubs or clubs |
| South Australia | Consumer and Business Services (Liquor & Gambling Commissioner) | Pubs, clubs and SkyCity Adelaide |
| Tasmania | Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission | Pubs, clubs and two casinos in Hobart and Launceston |
| ACT | ACT Gambling and Racing Commission | Pokies in licensed clubs; Casino Canberra |
| Northern Territory | NT Racing Commission | Pubs, clubs and casinos in Darwin and Alice Springs; licenses most online bookmakers |
Wherever you live, the online rules are the same: the IGA applies nationally and offshore casinos serve every state equally. What does change is time. Our support tests run across AEST (NSW, VIC, QLD, TAS, ACT), ACST (SA, NT) and AWST (WA), including daylight saving in the southern states, so a live chat that goes quiet at 9pm in Perth loses points just as it would at 9pm in Sydney.
Aussie casino bonuses look similar everywhere, but the details decide what they are worth. Before you opt in, check the wagering multiple and whether it applies to the bonus only or to the deposit as well, the maximum bet while wagering (often A$5 to A$7.50), which pokies count 100%, any cap on winnings and how long you have to clear it. Our top pick's A$1,500 package is fully in AUD with terms written in plain English. Every current offer is compared on our casino sign up bonus and best casino bonuses pages.

Australians spend more per person on gambling than any other country, so good habits matter. Set deposit limits in your casino account, use your bank's gambling block if you need a hard stop (CommBank, NAB, ANZ, Westpac and others offer one) and call Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858 any time, day or night. BetStop, the National Self-Exclusion Register, covers every Australian-licensed online bookmaker. Everything is gathered on our responsible gambling page.
Judged on the things that matter to a player in Australia rather than a player in Europe, one operator finished clear of the field: an Australian online casino bonus of 150% bonus up to $1,500, AUD accounts with PayID and Osko, up to 20 % cashback every weekend, more than 9,000 games and live chat that answers at AEST hours.
No Australian state or territory licenses online casino games or online pokies, because the Interactive Gambling Act prohibits them. Casinos available to Australians are licensed offshore, by regulators such as Curaçao, Malta, Kahnawake or Anjouan.
No. The IGA makes it an offence for operators to offer online casino games to Australians, not for players to use them.
Our 2026 winner is the site at the top of this page. For a full ranking, see best online casino Australia.
Yes. Every casino we recommend supports AUD balances, so you avoid conversion fees on deposits and withdrawals.
Not for online play. The federal IGA applies nationally. State rules cover land-based venues, such as Western Australia only allowing pokies at Crown Perth.
PayID, Osko, POLi, Neosurf, Visa and Mastercard debit, bank transfer and crypto. PayID is the most popular; see our PayID casinos Australia guide.
